Math 152:10-12, Fall 1999 grading progress

A calculator was found after the exam. If you think you left one there, contact Paul Dreyer giving details.

Exams were graded on Friday, December 17,1999, and a departmental "curve" determined. A graph for this lecture section has been prepared showing the results and how they compare to the total of the four class exams. (The previous version of the graph included everyone on the roster, leading to a large number of zero grades on the final paired with assorted low grades on exams. Concentrating on those who completed the course caused the trend line to rotate counterclockwise about [approximately] (300,100) ).

The table below shows results on each problem of the final exam.

Course grades have been decided and were reported to the Mathematics Department Office before it closed on Monday, December 20. Results are shown in a table giving numbers of each grade by section. Because the grade of D is treated differently in different units, I use it sparingly for course grades. For those in the D range in this class, the chief weakness was identified and the grade was recorded as TD to allow a C to be earned in a few weeks. Details, for those who need them, are available here. The table summarizes the official roster, so it includes the 8 who are acknowledged to have withdrawn from the course and 4 more who did not complete the course but were still listed. An attempt was made to have grade divisions respect any clustering of scores in the 600 point total (400 points in class exams rescaled to 250 plus 150 points from raw workshop and homework grades plus 200 points from final exam) used to determine rank in class. The min column is the smallest value and the max column is the largest value for the grade on each row.

The University requires final examinations to be retained for one year to allow students to examine their work and its evaluation by the grader. For this section, exams will be in Prof. Bumby's office on Busch Campus (Hill 438). After a year, exams will be discarded.
