640:250 Linear Algebra, Spring 2005

Catalog Description

01:640:250. INTRODUCTORY LINEAR ALGEBRA (3) Prerequisite: CALC2. Systems of linear equations, Gaussian elimination, matrices and determinants, vectors in two- and three-dimensional Euclidean space, vector spaces, introduction to eigenvalues and eigenvectors. Possible additional topics: systems of linear inequalities and systems of differential equations.

Spence, Insel, & Friedberg: Elementary Linear Algebra: A Matrix Approach ,   Prentice-Hall   (ISBN # 0-13-716722-9).

A student solution manual may be ordered from this site (but is not required for the course). The Rutgers bookstore sells the text bundled with the student solution manual.

The authors of the textbook also have a companion   web site containing supplementary material.

A suggested syllabus has been prepared as a pdf file and as a postscript file. There is also a list of suggested homework problems as a pdf file and a postscript file. Individual instructors may modify the syllabus and homework problems for their sections.
