You will be given several computer assignments, using the computational package MAPLE.


No prior knowledge of MAPLE is assumed.


The introductory Maple Lab will be held during the first recitation sections on Friday, September 2. At that time you will download materials from the General Math 251 Home Page, get acquainted with MAPLE and do Lab #0.


The September 2 classes will take place in the computer lab ARC 118.

• Exams: There will be two midterm exams, during lecture periods. And there will be a final exam, covering the entire course. The exams will be announced at least two weeks in advance.


• Homework: Assignments will be made in class. Late papers will not be accepted.


• Quizzes will be given occasionally, either announced or unnanounced. They will generally be connected with homework problems or the labs. There will be no makeup quizzes.


• The due dates for Maple Labs will generally be about 10 days after the labs areassigned. Again, late papers will not be accepted.


• Your grade will be calculated with the following weights:

  		Midterm Exams (19% each)	38%
  		Homework and Quizzes	15%
  		Maple Labs	7%
  		Final Exam	40%
  		Total	100%



• You are encouraged to be sociable about your learning. Discuss your assignments with your classmates. Use office hours to help demystify mysteries and get your questions answered. BUT your written assignments must be written up independently, in your own words. Identical written assignments are generally very strong evidence of plagiarism, one of the most serious offenses in a university.


• You are responsible for everything that goes on in class, unless specifically told otherwise.


• There will be no makeup exams except in the rare case of a student who (a) has a documented emergency (this means serious!) and (b) has made every reasonable effort to contact the professor in advance of the exam.
