The current textbook, newly introduced to Math 251 this summer, is Jon Rogawski, Calculus Early Transcendentals, W. H. Freeman and Company, ISBN 1-4292-1113-X.

For the 2008 summer session only, students who already own Stewart's book may continue to use it. Rogawski's book will be used exclusively beginning in Fall 2008.

The projects

Information about Maple assignments is currently available from the Main course page.

To the instructor

One recitation class early in the term should be held in an Instructional Microcomputer Laboratory (IML) instead of the regular classroom. Reservations made by the department can be checked. Lecturers should announce details of this meeting and obtain copies of the printed material from the department mail room.

To the student

In the IML, you will obtain a copy of everything needed to work through the introductory material on Maple. You should save your work in your eden directory (if you opt to access your eden directory when you identify yourself to the computer, a program called WebDrive will make your eden directory appear to be a disk on your local computer, typically W:) in order to continue working on the lab. Your finished report will be collected in approximately two weeks. Lab0 will be graded in order to illustrate the grading standards for this work, but the grade will normally not be counted toward the course grade. As each lab is collected for grading, you should obtain the description of the next lab.
