NOTES:

  • The section numbers above were unchanged in passing from the 4th to the 5th edition of Stewart, so this syllabus may be used with either edition.
  • It is suggested that Maple labs be collected two weeks after they are assigned.
  • Section 12.6, on quadric surfaces, is listed with a question mark in Lecture 6, since Maple Lab 2 covers this material, producing far better drawings than most lecturers can produce. The question mark suggests that class time not be spent on this section, but that students be asked to read it in conjunction with the lab.
  • Coverage of Section 12.7 on cylindrical and spherical coordinates, is deferred until it is needed, that is, just before the treatment of triple integrals in those coordinate systems.
  • Coverage of section 15.6 on surface area is delayed, so that it comes just before surface area of parametric surfaces. Instructors running behind the syllabus should consider omitting sections 15.6 and 16.6.
  • This syllabus was last changed in June 2004.
