NOTES:
- There appear to be only minor rearrangements of material in this section of the text, so this is the same syllabus used in recent semesters with section numbers changed. Chapter headings in this part of the text (with comparable sections of third edition) are:
- 12. Vectors and the Geometry of Space (was sections 1 thru 6 and 10 of chapter 11)
- 13. Vector Functions (was sections 7 thru 9 of chapter 11)
- 14. Partial Derivatives (was chapter 12)
- 15. Multiple Integrals (was chapter 13)
- 16. Vector Calculus (was chapter 14)
- It is suggested that Maple labs be collected two weeks after they are assigned.
- Section 12.6, on quadric surfaces, is listed with a question mark in Lecture 6, since Maple Lab 2 covers this material, producing far better drawings than most lecturers can produce. The question mark suggests that class time not be spent on this section, but that students be asked to read it in conjunction with the lab.
- Coverage of Section 12.7 on cylindrical and spherical coordinates, is deferred until it is needed, that is, just before the treatment of triple integrals in those coordinate systems.
- Coverage of section 15.6 on surface area is delayed, so that it comes just before surface area of parametric surfaces. Instructors running behind the syllabus should consider omitting sections 15.6 and 16.6.
