General Information

This course deals with several special topics in geometry. Prior exposure to geometry through a course at the level of 435 is useful but not absolutely necessary.

Prerequisites

Required: CALC3 and 01:640:250.

Description

In this second course on geometry we will consider several important problems, including
  • Axioms of geometry: from Euclid to Hilbert;
  • Regular (platonic) solids;
  • Geometrical constructions with compass and ruler, including Gauss'construction of the regular 17-gon;
  • Non-Euclidean geometries;
  • Multidimensional geometry.
