Setting up your Math account using Netscape Communicator 4.7x
1. Start Netscape. Select Edit from the menu and select Preferences.
2. Under Category, click on the + in front of Mail & Newsgroups. Then highlight Mail Servers.
Under the Outgoing Mail Server enter the following settings:
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: math.rutgers.edu
Outgoing mail server user name: yourmathusername
If the Incoming Mail Servers field is empty as in the picture above click on Add. Otherwise highlight the server you want to configure and click on Edit. You are in the Mail Server Properties window.
Under General, enter the following.
Server Name: math.rutgers.edu Server Type: IMAP.
(Note: IMAP Server might already have been set if you set up your profile before.)
User Name: yourmathusername
Click IMAP. We recommend that you select the following items, so that your screen looks like the picutre below:
- Mark new folders for offline download
- Remove it immediately
- Clean up ("Expunge") Inbox on exit
- Empty Trash on exit
After you have done this click on the OK button.
The information entered here is used to identify you in your email and news messages.
Your name (Optional): Your_Real_Name
Email address (Required):
yourmathusername@math.rutgers.edu
Reply-to address (Only needed if different from email address):
(Replace the italicized text above with your actual username)
Organization (Optional): Rutgers University
Signature File (Optional): your_choice
Note: A signature file is a text field that is automatically appended to your email and news messages. This is particularly helpful if you wish to inform people about your organization, designation or affiliation. First, you need to create a text signature file using Notepad and save it under the Netscape directory. To specify a signature file, do the following. Under Signature File: Use the Choose button to locate the signature file you created. Highlight the file name and click Open.
Finally click Ok to finish the configuration process.
