Nonlinear Analysis

On the stationary solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations in the plane

Julien Guillod , Princeton University: Despite the seminal work of Jean Leray, the stationaryNavier-Stokes equations in two-dimensional unbounded domains are stillnot completely understood mathematically. More precisely, the behaviorat infinity of the weak solutions is an open question. The Stokesparadox states that the linearization of the Navier-Stokes equationshave no bounded solutions in general. In this talk, I will explain howthe nonlinearity helps to obtain bounded solutions going to zero atinfinity as well as their asymptotic behavior for the full nonlinearequations.
