Geometric Analysis Seminar

Einstein's Equations, Goldilocks Singularities, and N'eantology

Location:  Hill 705
Date & time: Tuesday, 20 September 2016 at 3:00PM - 3:11PM

Shadi Tahvildar-Zadeh, Rutgers University: Solutions of Einstein's equations of general relativity that exhibit particle-like features have long fascinated researches in fundamental physics, including Einstein himself. In this introductory talk, I report on some recent joint works with Michael Kiessling and with Moulik K. Balasubramanian, in which we examine the geometry and topology of some of the simplest solutions of Einstein's equations that have particle-like features, analyse their singular structure, and explore the intriguing possibility of identifying particulate matter with singularities of spacetime.
