The Mathematics Department of Rutgers University-New Brunswick invites applications for the following positions which may be available September 2008.
TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSORSHIP: Subject to availability of funding, the Department may be able to make an appointment at this level. Candidates with interests in algebra, mathematics of material science, geometry/topology, numerical analysis/scientific computation, control theory, or mathematical biology are especially encouraged to apply, although strong candidates in any field will be considered. Candidates must show outstanding research accomplishments in pure or applied mathematics, and concern for teaching. The normal annual teaching load for research-active faculty is 2-1, that is, two courses for one semester, plus one course for the other semester. Review of applications begins December 15.
HILL ASSISTANT PROFESSORSHIPS (non-tenure-track): These three-year nonrenewable positions come with a reduced teaching load (2-1) for research. The Department anticipates two appointments. Candidates should have received the Ph.D., show outstanding promise of research ability in pure or applied mathematics, and have concern for teaching. Review of applications begins December 1.
NON-TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSORSHIPS: These are three-year non-renewable positions, with a 2-2 teaching load. Candidates should have received the Ph.D., show evidence of superior teaching accomplishments, and show promise of research ability. Review of applications begins December 1.
Applicants for the above three types of positions should submit a curriculum vitae (including a publication list) and arrange for four letters of reference to be submitted, one of which evaluates teaching.
Applicants should first go to the website https://www.mathjobs.org/jobs and fill out the AMS Cover Sheet electronically. It is essential to fill out the cover sheet completely, including naming the positions being applied for (TTAP, HILL, NTTAP, respectively) giving the AMS Subject Classification number(s) of area(s) of specialization, and answering the question about how materials are being submitted. The CV and references may be submitted online at https://www.mathjobs.org/jobs, and this is the strongly preferred method of application. If necessary, however, application materials may instead be mailed to: Search Committee, Dept. of Math-Hill Center, Rutgers University, 110 Frelinghuysen Road, Piscataway, NJ 08854-8019.
