Title: Braids, Lie algebras, and homotopy goups
Abstract: The purpose of this lecture is to describe connections between certain free groups, Artin's braid groups, and the homotopy
groups of the 2-sphere. The results are non-computational in nature, and overlap
with the structure of Lie algebras arising within quantum groups. For example, these structures give the homotopy groups of the 2-sphere as "natural" subquotients of Artin's braid groups.
