Shape fluctuations for faceted crystals

We present a case study for the statistical mechanics of random surfaces with the special feature that on the macroscopic scale the surface has rounded and faceted pieces. We explain the link to the length of the longest increasing subsequence of a random permutation, to Dyson's Brownian motions, and to random matrices.
