Abstract.

A nice phenomenon exhibited by some large combinatorial systems is that some global quantities of interest are quite well determined by relatively simple numerical information (so are not much affected by more particular features of the system). We'll discuss a few things that are known along these lines and try to mention a few we'd like to know.
