Mathematical Careers and Ideas:

A WORLD OF IRRESISTIBLE INTEGRALS

by Prof. Luis A. Medina

Department of Mathematics, Rutgers University

with the participation of the Rutgers Pi Club

In Mathematical Careers and Ideas, the mathematics department is offering a series of talks for undergraduates. A World of Irresistible Integrals is the next event in this series.

Here is the speaker's description of his talk:

"In a regular course of Calculus we learn how to evaluate integrals using different techniques like integration by parts and substitution. In this talk we will explore the effect of a substitution on integrals of rational functions. This substitution will create a new rational function with the same integral as the previous one. Therefore we can see this as a map from the set of rational functions to itself. Interesting things happen when we iterate this map."
