Writing a recommendation for a DRP applicant
By a 'letter of recommendation' we mean a short e-mail message sent to drp@math.rutgers.edu indicating that you know the student well and that you believe he or she has the qualifications to participate in the program successfully. This mainly means two things.
-
That the student has a level of mathematical knowledge, maturity and ability that will allow him to
- read an advanced undergraduate-level mathematics textbook independently, including the proofs of the main results, and to
- solve most of the exercises in the textbook with little external help.
- That the student's capabilities, self-motivation, discipline, and enthusiasm will help him or her complete the semester-long reading project successfully.
