Peer Mentors

Peer mentors are undergraduates hired to work as teaching aides in calculus recitations and to provide one-on-one help to the students. Further information can be found on the Peer Mentor Home Page.

Recitation Mentors (formerly called Senior Peer Mentors)

A Recitation Mentor runs a recitation section of a mathematics course under the direction of the course instructor. The Recitation Mentor meets each section once a week, for fifty minutes in most cases.

In addition, Recitation Mentors are required to offer at least one office hour per week, per course. They are responsible for preparing and conducting the recitation, for grading any quizzes or homework that the lecturer assigns, and for helping with midterm and final grading.

In general, Recitation Mentors are assigned to pre-calculus courses such as 640:111, 640:112, and 640:115.

Requisites: At least two semesters' experience as a peer mentor, and good grades.

To apply, fill in a form in Hill Center, room 303.

Graders

Open to students who have taken several upper-level mathematics courses and have a good GPA.

To apply, fill in a form in Hill Center, room 303.
