Mathematical Careers and Ideas:

ACTUARIAL CAREERS

by Norman Clausen

In Mathematical Careers and Ideas, the mathematics department is offering a series of talks for undergraduates. Actuarial Careers is the next event in this series.

Norman Clausen graduated from Rutgers in 1966, with a degree in mathematics.  He went on to a career as an actuary, and recently retired as a partner from PriceWaterhouseCoopers.  In this talk he will discuss different types of actuarial work, as well as the process of becoming an actuary through the examinations conducted by the Society of Actuaries.  He will describe in some detail the work of actuaries as advisors to pension plans, discussing types of possible employers and describing the various roles an actuary plays in advising fund managers.
