CHALLAH (courtesy of Mom Pfaff, with slight editing by me) 1. Mix 1.25 cups warm water, ¾ cup sugar, and 2 packets yeast. Let foam and then wait until bubbles 2. In separate bowl, mix 3 large eggs and ¼ cup vegetable oil 3. Take 4th egg and separate yolk and white (pass yolk back and forth between 2 halves of shell, allowing white to fall into a bowl) 4. Add white to eggs and oil (save yolk for later) 5. Beat eggs and oil, then add to yeast mixture 6. Add 2 cups flour 7. Add 1 cup golden raisins 8. Add 2-4 more cups flour until not moist, holds shape 9. Kneed it on flour-coated surface until pretty smooth 10. Cover it with towel and let rise until doubles, then punch down (releasing air) 11. Divide into 2 parts, then each part into 3 parts, pull on each part until they become “strands” and braid them 12. Place on sprayed cookie sheet 13. Cover again with towel and let rise again (~30mins this time) 14. Brush saved egg yolk onto braids and add colored sprinkles 15. Bake at 350 degrees for ~30mins
