Course purpose
- This course is intended to provide an introduction to calculus for students in the biological sciences, business, economics, and pharmacy.
- Math 136 and Math 138 are possible continuations of this course.
- There is another calculus sequence, Math 151, 152, and 251, intended for students in mathematical and physical sciences, engineering, and computer science.
- Taking Math 152 after Math 135 is permitted but is quite difficult. Math 136 and Math 138 do not satisfy the prerequisite for Math 251. Students for whom taking either Math 152 or Math 251 is a serious possibility are strongly encouraged to start calculus with Math 151, not Math 135.
- Grading criteria
- Syllabus/Lecture schedule
- Exams
- 1st Midterm: October 6 (Thursday); in class
- 2nd Midterm: TBA; in class
- Final Exam: Dec 19, 4-7PM; Location: TBA
- Final Exam Conflicts:
- More than two (2) final exams on one calendar day
- More than two (2) final exams scheduled in consecutive periods (example: A student has exams scheduled for 4:00-7:00 pm and 8:00-11:00 pm on one day and 8:00-11:00 am on the following day)
- Two final exams scheduled for the same exam period
- The departmental policy is that no other reasons are considererd valid conflicts.
- Calculators won't be allowed on the exams or quizzes.
- ADVICE ON HOW TO DO WELL:
- Cheating: Firstly, you
should decide if that is the sort of person you'd like to be. Secondly, you should know that
the chances of getting caught are quite high, and the consequences rather dire. I hope
this matter never arises, but if it does, you will be subject to the
university policy .
