THE RUTGERS PLACEMENT TESTS IN MATHEMATICS: PLACEMENT CATEGORIES

The Rutgers Placement Tests in Mathematics cover the following material: computational skills, elementary algebra, and precalculus (intermediate algebra, functions, logarithms and exponents, and trigonometry). The tests are designed to be taken without calculators. Depending upon the scores of the tests, students are placed into categories indicating the highest math course in which they may enroll. The categories are as follows:

CMP: Math 001/025 or Math 023
EAL:  Math 025 or Math 027
IAL:   Math 026
CMA: Math 111, Math 103, or Math 104
PCA:  Math 115
CAL:  Math 135 or Math 151
