Seminar Exchange Program

Note: The format and scope of the seminar exchange may be changing in the future. The hope is for expansion! Stay tuned.

I am happy to announce that we will be continuing the "exchange program" with Lehigh University's Department of Mathematics. The goal of the exchange is to provide students with a new audience and a different setting, while still maintaining a low-pressure environment in which students can practice and hone their speaking skills. It is also an opportunity to form relationships with students at other institutions, and a way for the two departments to build their relationship.

For Rutgers Students:

Currently, students from Rutgers can participate in the exchange by speaking at Lehigh's Graduate Student Intercollegiate Mathematics Seminar (GSIMS). In order to participate, please contact the organizer or any other contact listed on the GSIMS conact list. Please also let us know if you are arranging a seminar at another school! We'd like to know about it, and invite other Rutgers students to attend. We can also try to coordinate carpooling.

For Lehigh (or other) Students:

Students wishing to reciprocate are encouraged to likewise contact the Rutgers Pizza Seminar organizer(s). They will be happy to have you speak at the seminar. Please keep in mind that they may be able to rearrange their schedule to accomodate your potential trip to Rutgers, so don't let the schedule of speakers deter you. If you can only come on a day that seems to already have a Rutgers student scheduled to speak, they may still be able to fit you in - it may be that the schedule can be rearranged.

Please note that the address 110 Frelinghuysen Road (Rutgers's Hill Center) is NOT where the parking is. The marker on the map indicates the correct location for parking. If you are using your GPS, I would suggest setting it to "98 Brett Road" or the nearest point on the Google map that it will accept. Please also arrive early if you want to make sure you have a chance to pick up a parking pass and put it in your car before the seminar begins.

Directions:

Students attempting the exchange in either direction are encouraged to budget sufficient time for the trip, which is approximately one hour (but leave early - to arrive early and/or in case of delays). The suggested driving route to Lehigh is via I-87, which is roughly this. The reverse is basically the same, click here. Please note that there is a toll as you cross the state line of $1.60. I suggest bringing exact change. Reimbursement, if you need it, may be available, please inquire in advance with the organizer of the seminar about that.
