nonequilibrium
stationary states of stochastic lattice gases, we formulate a
macroscopic theory for the thermodynamic description of driven
diffusive systems. This theory relies on the local equilibrium
assumption and on the validity of a local Einstein relation.
Equilibrium states are then characterized by the vanishing of the
current in the stationary density profile. We briefly discuss the
so-called ABC model and its peculiarities.

Date/Time/Place: Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, 2:00pm, Hill 705 Title: mathematical questions related to the Gross-Pitaevskii equation Abstract: In this talk I will review some recent results about the Gross-Pitaevskii equation and related equations appearing in the theory of Bose-Einstein condensation. I will also state open problems in this subject.
