Abstract: In this talk we will present a model for the coalescence of
electrolyte droplets. Electrolytes are incompressible, viscous
fluids which carry charge. These fluids inherit several interesting
properties from the interplay between inertial, interfacial
and electrostatic forces. We will show how a energetically
consistent system can be derived from the basic energy
by performing systematic variations, discuss a diffuse interface
approximation as well as several open mathematical questions
and show, time permitting, preliminary numerical simulations of the model.
