Homework:   At the start of each lecture, I announce
a list of homework problems. A running list of these problems will be
placed on the Class Website.
These problems are similar to the kinds of
problems I put on the exams and quizzes.
The last 25 minutes of each Monday, Tuesday,
and Wednesday meeting is a recitation, which is a time for the students to
ask about homework problems they didn't understand.
Please also feel free to ask about homework problems during the quiz and
exam review periods.
None of the homework will be collected for grading. I assume
everyone understands all the homework if nobody asks me any questions about
the homework problems.
Grading:  The course grade is determined by scores
on four
open book, open notes 30 minute quizzes and four closed book, closed notes
hour-long exams. The dates of the quizzes and exams will be as above. Each
quiz is worth 50 points, and each exam is worth 100 points. The quizzes and
exams are cumulative, each covering all material in the syllabus up through
the day before the quiz or exam is given.
I lecture on only selected portions of each section in the syllabus, but
the quizzes and tests cover the entireties of the relevant syllabus sections
unless I announce otherwise.
Course grades are assigned
based on the total number of points earned in the course according to the
following table:
| Grade | Total Points |
| A+ | 467-600 |
| A | 434-466 |
| A- | 400-433 |
| B+ | 367-399 |
| B | 334-366 |
| B- | 300-333 |
| C+ | 267-299 |
| C | 234-266 |
| C- | 200-233 |
| D+ | 167-199 |
| D | 134-166 |
| D- | 100-133 |
| F+ | 67-99 |
| F | 34-66 |
| F- | 0-33 |
Student grades will be posted on the Class Website by Student Access Number
(SAN).
Class attendance is expected. There will be no make-ups for quizzes or exams.
Student Conduct:   Swearing, fighting, smoking,
eating, drinking, using cell phones or pagers,
speaking without first raising a hand for permission
to speak, speaking to classmates during exams or quizzes, and reading
a classmate's work during an exam or quiz are not allowed during class time.
Students
who habitually violate these prohibitions will be referred to the
Vice-Chair for Undergraduate Studies for disciplinary action.
