Recitation Information
Homework:
Homework will be assigned and collected weekly. Homework is due at recitation, and must be neat and well-organized. Loose sheets of paper tend to get lost, so please staple your homework.
Quizzes:
There will be a ten-minute quiz administered at the end of every class period. The quiz will cover the same material as the homework due in that class period.
Quizzes will be graded out of ten points. If you score below an 8 on any quiz you may come to office hours and explain the correct solutions to the quiz problems in order to regain some of the lost points.
If your quiz score is n, the number of points you recover will be equal to (8-n)/2. That is, this will bring you half way back up to an 8. This MUST be done in the week immediately following the return of the quizzes.
Attendance:
Though attendance is not a factor in the recitation grade, you must be in class in order to submit your homework and to take the quiz. However, I understand that it is not always possible to make it to class.
If you know ahead of time that you are going to have to miss class, (doctor appointment, family obligation, etc.) let me know at least a day in advance. Recitation is on Tuesday, so I will expect to hear from you before midnight on Sunday. Such absences will be deemed excused or unexcused on a case-by-case basis.
If you must miss class for some unforeseen reason (sudden illness, family emergency, etc.) try to contact me within twenty-four hours of the missed recitation. Again, absences will be deemed excused or unexcused on a case-by-case basis.
Late Homework:
In general, late homework will not be accepted. However you will have a single one-week grace period to be used at any point in the semester. To make use of this, mark "Grace Period" clearly at the top of your homework assignment, and submit it along with the next week's assignment in the next recitation.
In the case of an excused absence, I will accept homework during my office hours in the week following its duedate.
Makeup Quizzes:
In general, makeup quizzes will not be administered. However, in the case of an excused absence, a makeup quiz can be arranged with me ahead of time, to take place during my office hours in the week following the quiz.
