Some information for Math 151, sections 01,02,03:
Workshops:
Part of your Thursday workshop meeting will generally be devoted to working on one or more workshop problems. Each week, at this meeting, one of these problems will be assigned for you to hand-in at the meeting on the following Thursday. Your TA will tell you which problem is due and also explain what constitutes a good write-up. Your write-up will be graded for both presentation and mathematical correctness. "Presentation" includes good English, good punctuation and good use of logic. Beware of writing too much! Writing mathematics is an art which requires brevity and clarity. Learning how to write mathematics well is one of the main aims of the workshop format. You will get back your graded workshop problem one week after you hand it in. Many workshop problems will require some calculator use, so you should always bring your calculator to class on Thursdays.
Workshop grades will be an important part of your course grade. Write-ups cannot be handed-in late. You are encouraged to talk with your fellow students about how to solve workshops problems, but the write-up must be your own.
Homework:
Homework will be due on Thursdays at your worshop meeting, and the list of problems due will be posted weekly here. In general, the problems that are due will be the ones that are listed on the syllabus, but there may be deletions or additions. Our list may be different from the lists for other sections of the course. So you should always check here for your assignment. You have to hand-in a solution for each problem that is listed. Some of these will be graded, but you won't be told in advance which ones will be graded. The remaining problems, i.e., those that are in the list but not graded, will be "eyeballed" for your participation, and a few points will be given for them. Homework also cannot be late and will be an important part of your course grade.
