Dr. Z, I got a larger data set for a^3 + b^3 = c^3 \pm 1.  See
http://eden.rutgers.edu/~erowland/data for all solutions with c < 7000.

I also noticed some patterns in the data and found the following two
general solutions (which grow as polynomials, so there won't be any matrix
relation for them):

(9*n^3-1)^3 + (9*n^4-3*n)^3 = (9*n^4)^3 - 1
and
(9*n^3+1)^3 + (9*n^4)^3 = (9*n^4+3*n)^3 + 1
