Here is his reply. Best , Felix. From: ebert@math.udel.edu (Gary Ebert) Thanks Felix. I have always felt the same way about Madison, but of course I am biased. But faculty there, even the very powerful ones, devote a lot of time to teaching and take it very seriously. This makes an impression on grad students. Madison also has a TA mentoring program that works very effectively. I probably told you this story before. But I will never forget walking the halls of the Math Dept in Madison, hearing Walter Rudin and R.H. Bing having a heated discussion. Upon getting closer, I learned it was not about some abstract mathematical question, but rather about how best to teach trigonometry! Evidently they were both teaching trig that semester, and each felt they had the secret to best conveying the material. At Madison, everyone (even superstars) taught beginning courses like trig and precalculus from time to time. Can you imagine that happening here? ----------------------- Headers -------------------------------- Return-Path: Received: from relay28.mx.aol.com (relay28.mail.aol.com [172.31.109.28]) by air07.mail.aol.com (v50.14) with SMTP; Wed, 30 Sep 1998 14:55:25 -0400 Received: from homer.math.udel.edu (homer.math.udel.edu [128.175.16.24]) by relay28.mx.aol.com (8.8.8/8.8.5/AOL-4.0.0) with ESMTP id OAA28636 for ; Wed, 30 Sep 1998 14:55:24 -0400 (EDT) Received: (from ebert@localhost) by homer.math.udel.edu (8.8.4/8.7.3) id OAA06754 for Nolik@aol.com; Wed, 30 Sep 1998 14:53:53 -0400 (EDT) Date: Wed, 30 Sep 1998 14:53:53 -0400 (EDT) From: Gary Ebert Message-Id: <199809301853.OAA06754@homer.math.udel.edu> To: Nolik@aol.com Subject: Re: a Complement Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-MD5: mOi43YYxJQiD6c4WsHKocg==
