Graduate Student Number Theory Seminar

The Spin of Prime Ideals

Location:  Hill 525
Date & time: Friday, 03 June 2016 at 1:00PM - 1:11PM

Matthew Welsh, Rutgers University: In a 2010 article, Friedlander, Iwaniec, Mazur, and Rubin showed cancellation in the sum of a certain arithmetic function, which they call spin, over prime ideals in a number field. After briefly stating the application of this result to the statistics of Selmer groups, I will sketch how they got the estimate by adapting the familiar bilinear form technique to a number field setting and eventually reducing to an application of Burgess's bound.
