Linnik's Theorem

Location:  Hill 525
Date & time: Friday, 24 June 2016 at 1:00PM - 1:11PM

Matthew Welsh, Rutgers University: Linnik's theorem on primes in arithmetic progressions states that for a coprime with q, the smallest prime congruent to a modulo q is O(q^L) for a constant L. The proof of this uses three principles of the zeros of Dirichlet L-functions: a standard zero-free region, log-free zero density estimates, and the exceptional zero repulsion.
