Experimental Mathematics Seminar

Problems in Celestial Mechanics

 Harry Gingold, West Virginia University

Location:  HILL 705
Date & time: Thursday, 26 October 2017 at 5:00PM - 5:48PM

Abstract:   At the beginning of the 20th century, G.D. Birkhoff called the N body problem of celestial mechanics the most celebrated problem in mathematics. Although this perspective has changed after an explosive expansion of mathematics in the past decades, numerous important problems remain. I will discuss a selected number of these problems.

The talk will be accessible to graduate students.
