Abstract: I will discuss various approaches used in treating open quantum systems and will make a detailed comparison between various methods [1,2]. Both time dynamics and non-equilibrium steady states (NESS) will be discussed. I will then discuss an open quantum system generalization of incommensurate models [3,4] and will argue that this will provide a great insight into the proprieties of the system (such as NESS current scaling with system size) which can be missed if one computes only closed system quantities.
