Analyticity and Failure of Analyticity for Bounded Solutions of Differential-Delay Equations: New Theorems and Open Questions

Abstract:  We shall discuss some superficially simple examples for which bounded C^(infinity) solutions  are analytic on an open dense set but fail to be analytic on a Cantor-type set. We shall then discuss an even simpler class of equations which have bounded C^(infinity) solutions which we conjecture (no proofs!) are nowhere analytic. An attempt will be made to keep the talk as self-contained as possible, with most technical details swept under the rug.

The material discussed represents joint work with John Mallet-Paret.
