Abstract: We're all familiar with the usual notion of geometric convexity: a set S in Euclidian space is convex if for every two points in S, the line connecting these points is also contained in S. In complex n-space, we consider many other notions of convexity which interact with the complex structure of the set. In this talk, I will present a number of these other types of convexity and their relationships. Along the way, we will see lots of interesting examples, some surprising results from the core of Several Complex Variables, and at least one easily stated problem that's been open for more than 50 years. I will assume the audience is familiar with the concept of a holomorphic function in one variable, but very little familiarity with complex analysis beyond that is required.
