Horocycles in geometrically finite hyperbolic surfaces

Abstract: We will discuss equidistribution properties of horocycles in geometrically finite hyperbolic surfaces. For finite volume surfaces, horocycles have been the subject of much study, and their equidistribution has been related to some important problems in number theory. Recently, there has been some interest in obtaining similar results for surfaces of infinite volume. We will present an overview of a few aspects of the dynamics of the horocycle flow on infinite-volume surfaces. In particular, we will try to give a quantitative description of the equidistribution of non-closed horocycles towards the socalled Burger–Roblin measure.
