Orbifolds and other mildly noncommutative manifolds, with examples

Lev Borisov - Rutgers University

Location:  Hill 705
Date & time: Thursday, 18 April 2019 at 12:00PM - 1:00PM

Abstract:  I will talk about the notion of orbifold (a.k.a. Deligne-Mumford stack) in algebraic geometry, which is a relatively mild generalization of the notion of variety/manifold. I will specifically focus on the easier case of global finite quotients. Afterwards, I will discuss other generalizations of the concept of manifold, such as varieties with Brauer classes and Clifford noncommutative varieties.

Examples will be provided throughout, no prior familiarity with algebraic geometry is assumed.

THERE WILL BE A BROWN BAG LUNCH FROM 1-2PM
