Graduate Student Number Theory Learning Seminar

The Dedekind Eta Function and Its Multiplier System

George Hauser - Rutgers University

Location:  Hill 425
Date & time: Wednesday, 02 October 2019 at 10:30AM - 11:30AM

Abstract: The Dedekind Eta function is a famous holomorphic function with outstanding symmetry. It is a weight-1/2 modular form of full level, with an arithmetically interesting multiplier system. The Eta function is important in the theory of modular forms, because a great many modular forms can be written in terms of it (the most basic example is the discriminant function, which is eta^24!) In this seminar I will explain what this all means, and compute the multiplier system explicitly.
