Congruent numbers and elliptic curves

Doyon Kim - Rutgers University

Location:  Hill 425
Date & time: Wednesday, 06 November 2019 at 10:30AM - 11:30AM

Abstract: A congruent number is a positive integer that is the area of a right triangle with rational number sides. I will explain how the problem of determining whether an integer n is congruent relates to the study of elliptic curves of the form E_n: y^2=x^3-n^2x, and compute the zeta-function of E_n.
