Abstract:      Grossencharacter were introduced by E. Hecke to generalize Dirichlet characters in the setting of a number field. We’ll define them and their L-functions (focusing on concrete examples rather than formalism) and explore a few of their applications, such as the equidistribution of Gaussian primes in sectors of the plane.
