Critical Zeros of the Riemann Zeta Function

Louis Gaudet (Rutgers)

Location:  zoom
Date & time: Tuesday, 02 February 2021 at 4:00PM - 5:00PM

Abstract: The famous Riemann Hypothesis asserts that all of the nontrivial zeros of the Riemann zeta function are critical, that is, have real part 1/2. Although we are not able to prove this hypothesis even today, we are nonetheless able to show that a good number of zeros are indeed critical. I’ll cover Hardy & Littlewood’s work on this problem, and time-permitting I’ll discuss Selberg’s strengthening of their results, where he shows that a positive percentage of the zeros are critical.
