Location:  Hill 701 (Graduate Student Lounge)
Date & time: Monday, 06 March 2023 at 12:30PM - 1:30PM

Abstract: In this talk, we will define the Alexander polynomial for knots using covering space theory, and use this definition to calculate the polynomial for some examples. We will see the connections of the Alexander polynomial with other knot invariants such as the genus and the knot group. Time permitting, we will explore the Alexander polynomial for higher dimensional knots.
