 ffff;">The traditional approach to understanding the changes a parameterize
 d physical system undergoes as the parameters are varied consists of (1) wr
 iting a model family of differential equations (oftentimes in an ad hoc fas
 hion) and (2) numerically or analytically identifying bifurcations in this 
 family. While this is a time honored and fruitful pipeline, we instead take
  the approach of identifying bifurcations via a Conley index approach to to
 pological data analysis, effectively circumventing the oft dubious step (1)
 . In this talk, we will discuss the details of this method in the case of t
 he saddle node bifurcation. This is joint work with Konstantin Mischaikow.<
