Abstract: Z/2-harmonic 1-forms, introduced by Taubes, arise naturally in the study of boundary phenomena in gauge theory. While the deformation theory is well understood in the nondegenerate case, much less is known in the degenerate setting. In this talk, I will explain how metric perturbations can be used to study degenerate Z/2-harmonic 1-forms and to deform a natural class of such forms to nearby nondegenerate ones. This is based on joint work with Andries Salm.
