Representation theory and partition identities

Abstract:  In recent years, mathematicians have discovered that the representation theory of Lie algebras can be used to derive many classical partition identities (and many non-classical ones!). This is interesting because it gives reasons "why" the identities are true that feel nicer than just pushing around symbols. To illuminate this connection, we will study one particular Lie algebra and show how its representation theory relates to the classical Jacobi triple product identity. I won't assume that you know anything about Lie algebras or partition identities, and I won't need to develop any general theory.
